Honda CBR1000 RR Firebade TT Special Edition available

Honda UK has unveiled two CBR1000 RR Fireblade Special Editions to commemorate the achievements of two legendary Isle of Man TT racers Ian Hutchinson and John McGuinness. The two Fireblades feature a special paintwork and are available in both standard and ABS-equipped versons. Hutchinson broke all record by winning five races at the 2010 Isle of Man TT, while McGuinness has a total number of 15 victories at the dangerous road race. Read the full article »

Video: Honda Fireblade is a work of art

British artist Kyle Bean shows in it's latest creation that matter cannot be created or destroyed, but only transformed. The two Honda Fireblades, one complete, one other dismantled in a showcase in Selfridges, London is part of his Conversation of Mass series. The two blades are set up to balance at either end of a set of scales. The artist Kyle Bean, wanted to use something minimalistic but with presence, completely out of context, stylish and compact. Read the full article »

The CBR1000 RR and the R1 could get dual clutch transmission

It seems the japanese motorcycle companies could borrow the dual clutch transmission (DTC) technology from the automobile world for their next generation R1 and CBR1000 RR. Honda VFR1200 F already uses DTC, but the next step would be develop this technology on superbike models, where it would work slightly differently. But Honda is not the only japanese factory who is planning an electronically controlled gearbox for his sportbike, Yamaha is developing his own system, too. Read the full article »

Dual clutch Honda Fireblade in the pipeline

Honda was the very first motorcycle factory which offered dual clutch transmission. The fast transmission, which adds nearly 10% to the price of the standard $16 000 dollar bike, was introduced in the VFR1200 F. But designing a revolutionary new transmission isn't cheap, so Honda wants to spread the system across its range. To do that, they need to revise it so it can fit is smaller models, like the Fireblade. Another key element is the simplifying the electronics and sensors, reaching the same effect as the VFR's, but with reduced costs. Honda Japan has filed patents that shows this simplified system. The new design eliminates one expensive potentiometer used on the VFR. If they succeed, the dual-clutch Fireblade could appear in two years. Read the full article »
