Young company develops fuel injectors for two-stroke engines

A former Ford Motor Co. Engineer has developed a fuel injection system for small engines that can reduce emissions from motorcycles and ATVs. "It's something that people don't realize, but the traditional automobile has come a long way in becoming much cleaner than smaller engines," Kyle Schwulst told CNN. California moves on loud pipes

Motorcyclists who swap their bikes’s stock exhaust systems for loud pipes may be more likely to get a traffic ticket under a California bill that passed the Senate on Monday. Two days ago the Committee on Transportation approved Senate Bill 435, also known as the Motorcycle Anti-Tampering Act, with an 8-4 vote, which would make it illegal to operate a 2011 or newer motorcycle with an exhaust system that doesn’t have an EPA label that certifies it as meeting noise limit standards. Read the full article »

Victory sales up 42% in Q2 2010

Victory sales up 48% according to parent company Polaris Industries’ Q2 2010 report. Victory motorcycles recorded $15.5 million in sales over the second quarter compared to $10.5 million during the same period last year. In North America, sales were up 10% over last quarter despite the weak market for heavyweight cruisers and touring motorcycles. BMW motorcycles: July sales up

After announcing increased sales in the second quarter of 2010, the motorcycle division of BMW reported additional positivity for July. The sales of the German manufacturer rose 4.4% to 10,022 over 500cc, a segment that’s been on the negative side of sales across all manufacturers lately. BMW sold 9604 motorcycles in July 2009 in this segment. In the January-July period, BMW sold more than 67 000 motorcycles (previous year: 56 578). The best-selling model is – no surprise – the long-distance enduro, the R1200 GS, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Read the full article »
