No replacement for displacement. This phrase describes pretty well the Rocket which is powered by the world’s largest-displacement production engine. Triumph celebrates the 10th anniversary of the model with a limited edition, called X. And what do you do when the base model is already one of the biggest and baddest cruiser motorcycles out there? You make it even more mean.

Triumph wanted to give the bike an even more unique look, not that the Rocket lacked distinctness and road presence. For this job, Triumph hooked up with paint specialists 8-Ball to create this scheme that truly sets this bike apart form the rest of the Rocket lineup. It got a premium high-gloss custom paint scheme with ‘grind’ effect stripes, blackened components including exhaust, handlebars, mirrors and wheels with hand painted silver pinstripe. The guys at 8-Ball used a special a high-temperature-resistant paint on the exhaust and on the engine while the tank is painted black and then flames and the logo are added in “silver frost.”

Whatever the paint job, the engine will always be the star on any Rocket. After all these years, it’s till the largest displacement mass-production motorcycle and there’s nothing on the horizon that could change that. The 2294-cc three-cylinder delivers a crazy 163 pound-feet of torque (221 Nm) at a leisurely 2750 rpm and thanks to its fuel injection, the Rocket X responds quickly at any speed and in all gears. Just another blow-minding data: the forged crankshaft weighs 39-pound (17 kg).

The limited edition does stand out

The limited edition does stand out

As Triumph puts it, “the Rocket III has gained iconic status as the bike that every rider had on their wish list of ‘must do’ rides”. Well, this limited edition is even more unique since Triumph builds just 500 numbered editions of the bike. The special Rocket should be available in dealerships in March.
