A young inventor has created a motorcycle concept with a twist – it uses two wheels but they are positioned right next to each other, giving it the illusion of being a powered unicycle. The Massachussets-based company, BPG Motors is about to revolutionize the two-wheeled world with the UNO motorcycle. The chairman and founder of the company, 21-year-old inventor Ben Gulak says the bike will have the performanve of a maxi scooter but can turn 360 degrees in a 3 foot area.
The UNO at high speeds
The Uno works in two stages. At lower speeds, the wheels remain parallel providing the rider with a small compact and highly maneuverable urban commuting vehicle. However, as the vehicle accelerates, the wheels splay apart, realign and transform the Uno into a traditional motorcycle while moving, providing the rider with a safer, more stable and familiar platform for high speed travel. The bizarre-looking contraption has only one switch – on or off – and is controlled entirely by body movement. The rider leans forwards to accelerate and back to slow down. It has two wheels side-by-side and has been turning heads wherever it has been ridden.
The UNO at low speeds
Gulak wants to produce an initial run of 30 bikes within the next 8 to 12 months. The UNO will have a top speed of 35mph and will carry a price tag of $25,000. However, top speed will likely increase in the near future, while the price could drop to around $6-7,000.
