There is no ugly Moto Guzzi. It’s just isn’t. Guzzi is one of Europe’s iconic brands with distinctive styling and state-of-the-art technical solutions. And when you think of Cafe Racers, you put Italian motorcycle shops and custom garages definitely high up on the list. The guys of Emporio Elaborazioni Meccaniche took the plastic-wrapped V11 and turned it into a beautiful Cafe Racer, a unique sculpture, really.

The Moto Guzzi V11 is a pretty special bike. It’s got Guzzi’s distinctive V-Twin and styling but it’s got too much plastic on its skeleton. “We believed on what was under those plastics and under those heavy lines to bring out the classic style of a Guzzi bike; to make it a real Guzzi-racer.” said Dopz, one of the guys of the EEM team.

They wanted to get rid of all the plastic they could find on the bike and make it lighter and more nimble. The guys started at the back and created a new subframe because they wanted to make the mechanical components, the engine and the shaft drive visible. Thanks to this, the wheelbase got much bigger and you can take a good look on all the screws and details. The muffler is very small and the seat is a hand-made Guzzi racer unit that the guys found at the local market.

The front end got much more sportier, too. The Showa forks and the brakes come from a Ducati 998 but Dopz and his guys did much more than just get the parts from another classic bike und put them on the Guzzi. For example, they incorporated both the brake and clutch fluid reservoirs into the top triple tree! As Dopz said, “it’s a bike not a steady piece of art!”.

Lets get to the tank which will deliver a big surprise. If you can’t figure out on what Italian bike you did see this tank it’s because it comes from a Suzuki plant. Of course, it was heavily modified . The headlight is a stunning 1950’s Falcone Sport that houses a digital dash. The tank and the tail got the 1970’s V7 Special white paint that gives the bike a classic touch. The minimalistic 1990 Fiat turn signals make the special Guzzi road legal.

Great work, guys

The guys named the special Guzzi “il Sorpasso”. The term comes from the 1962 Italian cult road movie. It’s a perfect name for a special bike: we would take it to the Italian countryside, too.
