The inventor of the Sinclair C-5 developed a new pedal-electric hybrid vehicle, the X-1. Sir Clive’s new electric motorcycle looks like a bubble and works a lot like a recumbent. The bike has a comfortable seat, forward-mounted pedals and a high handlebar. The vehicle weighs just 30kg and features a 190Watt motor. The X-1 packs a 24V lithium-polymer battery pack which drives the rear wheel via a fixed-gear drivetrain.

The X-1 costs just £595, or $960, making the bike cheaper than many more electric bikes. Even better, the X-1 requires no driving license, insurance or road tax to be road legal. The bike goes into serial production in July 2011.
