Dakar – stage 2 video summary

The two title holders, Cyril Despres and Carlos Sainz, both won their second consecutive stage on the Personal Dakar Argentina Chile 2011. In the bike category, the Frenchman boasts a lead of 2’35” over Marc Coma. Already delighted with the performance of Ruben Faria during the afternoon, Cyril Despres learned yesterday evening that in fact he had picked up victory on stage 1, after a one minute penalty was handed out to his team-mate for breaking the speed limit. Read the full article »

Video: Riders are small, but they aren’t bugs

This video is a bit old but still funny. Norwegian Motorcycle Union (Norsk Motorcykkel Union) says 8 of 10 collisions are caused by drivers that never see the motorcycle. On the video, riders look like bugs on windshields, and the drivers don’t know how to get rid of them. Scandinavian strange sense of humor. But it definitely works. Video: 2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R on the racetrack

The completely redesigned ZX-10R is one of the most anticipated superbikes of 2011, and with it's new engine, the bike is faster and lighter than the Japanese competition. Kawasaki had some issues with the new engine, so they put the bike on technical hold, but despite this, the 2011 ZX-10R topped the 651-1000cc sales in many countries in November. Video: 2011 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Vaquero

Kawasaki’s Vulcan 1700 is a motorcycle that combines comfort, style and functionality. The Vaquero (pronounced va-kero, Spanish for cowboy) shares its 1700cc liquid-cooled, SOHC, 52-degree V-twin with the Vulcan Classic, Vulcan Nomad and Vulcan Voyager. The bike features Candy Fire red paint, muscle car-styled instrumentation, chrome accents, blacked out engine, air-cleaner cover, wheels and tank cover. Read the full article »

Video: World Record Snowmobile Jump

Levi LaVallee jumped an incredible 361 (110 m) feet while preparing for his Red Bull New Year No Limits world record snowmobile distance jump in San Diego. Unfortunately, Levi was injured shortly thereafter and as a result, the December 31 event has been canceled. But as the 361-foot jump eclipsed the existing record by 60 feet, it will be submitted for world record certification. Levi expects to make a full recovery. Read the full article »

Video: 2011 BMW K 1600 GT

BMW introduced the new K 1600 GT at this year’s Intermot, and now, a few month later the manufacturer released a video of the bike. With the new K 1600 GT, BMW motorcycles are now available for the first time with a 6-cylinder in-line power unit developed in-house. The 1649cc six-cylinder engine delivers 160hp and 175 Nm of torque, and now we can understand why BMW didn’t put music in the video, the sound of the engine is quite impressive. Read the full article »

Video: V12-powered Aston Martin bike

Large motorcycle manufacturers usually stop at eight cylinder, but some riders want more power and more agressive sound that a 1800-2000cc six-cylinder can offer. They usually build a V8-powered custom bike for themselves. But V12? A German guy had a dream and then built this beauty, which is just absurd. Video: Ferrari 458 Italia vs Ducati 1198S

Car vs motorcycle videos often useless but Motor Trend found two gorgeous Italian machines that are noble opponents. The 458 Italia features a 4.5-litre V8 that produces 557hp, accelerates from zero to 160 km/h in 7.0 seconds and does the quarter mile in 11.1 seconds. Ferrari’s already iconic car costs about $230,000. In the blue corner, there’s another expensive Italian machine, the Ducati 1198 S.
