Last year Yamaha UK gave the UK’s biggest motorcycle weekly publication MCN an XV950 on loan. The plan for journalist Steve Hunt was to see what a relative novice could do with some bolt on parts and accessories to create his own custom build. The result is truly impressive; the Yard Built XV950 „Dangan” (Japanese for „bullet”) is a proper custom build and worthy of its place here amongst the other special Yard Built creations!

With no cutting or welding, everything has been customised with the ability to return the bike to stock. Steve rode the XV950 down to Biarritz for last year’s Wheels & waves event and realised he needed a fairing for more speed and a place to tuck in behind. This decision led to the beautiful fairing you see here, custom made by Lamb Engineering, who also made the stunning CNC-machined billet engine and clutch plates and custom top yoke. A Greg Hageman bolt on rear subframe raises the rear and a customised set of 18inch rims from the Yamaha accessory catalogue get the bike rolling. Further mods included a Magura HC-3 master brake cylinder, milled end caps and fuel filler cap and of course a custom seat and stunning paint job!
