Nagoya-based Japanese company An-Bu builds stripped-back customs. Their newest creation is a Yamaha Cafe Racer. The bike is based on the Yamaha GX400SP which was produced in the late 70’s. The guys at An-Bu cut down the frame and lowered the suspension. The Yamaha now features a narrow tank and a tire-hugging tail unit. Although the look is interesting, there is something that does not work for us. Is it the high front end or the too low and too short back end? Full gallery after the jump. Read the full article »

Super Wheels took two of the finest power cruisers currently available on the market – the brutal Yamaha V-Max and the new Ducati Diavel, and organized a race between them. The V-Max is powered by a huge, 1700cc V4 delivering 200hp and 167Nm of torque. The Japanese bike weighs 310kg. The Italian Diavel is lighter, but it’s 1200cc high-tech Testastretta engine produces „just” 162hp. Which one is faster on the track? Fastest times: Diavel 10"729 (211,0 km/h), V Max 10"521 ( 213,6 km/h). It was close, but the king is still the king. Read the full article »

Japanese sports industry is now facing hard times after last Friday’s earthquake and tsunami. Reports said that the 9.0-magnitude earthquake caused cracks on the track and also damaged spectator seats at the Motegi circuit (90 miles north of Tokyo), which has led to MotoGP World Championship being rearranged for October. The race was originally scheduled for April 24. The MotoGP season is due to get under way at Losail in Qatar. A domestic road race there next Sunday was also knocked off the circuit's calendar. Read the full article »

According to the picture, the Japanese manufacturer will reveal soon an upgraded version of its popular naked bike FZ8. They say the exhaust system of the bike comes from Laser. In addition to that, they spotted Öhlins suspension parts but not much else could be seen different. No word on when the FZ8R will make its debut. Read the full article »

Yamaha has reported its 2010 business results last week, and despite announcing a small profit, investors lost faith in the company. Yamaha Motor share price plunged 10.55% to 1,525 yesterday at the Tokyo stock exhange. For 2011, the company is expecting a rise of 9.3% in net profit to 20 billion yen and a 3.3% rise in operating profit to 53 billion yen, but investors were still disappointed. Although sales have been strong in Asia, weak sales numbers in the US and Europe have caused Yamaha’s concern. Read the full article »

The 125cc and the Moto2 entry lists are official, but MotoGP.com says the list of MotoGP class is still provisional. In this class, 2010 World Champion Jorge Lorenzo will be taking the #1 plate. It seems, two of the teams, Yamaha and Ducati have lost their sponsor: Fiat and Marlboro is out. Besides, Moto2 lost two teams, Jack & Jones by Antonio Banderas and Holiday Gym Racing.
Spanish motorcycle magazine motociclismo.es has reported that Yamaha started projects for a three cylinder engine for a new development on its sports T-Max 500 maxi scooter. The 500cc engine is a twin cylinder, and the magazine says Yamaha will add a third cylinder to that engine. This would increase the displacement to 750cc, while the final transmission would be strengthened to match the greater power output. Suspension would be also modified. The new maxi scooter would be called T-Max 750. The bike could go into serial production during 2011. Read the full article »

These are the first picture of the XTZ 250 Ténéré, a miniaturized copy of the big European adventurer, the XT1200Z Super Ténéré. The mini-adventure bike takes its styling from her sister, but its 250cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine produces a modest 23hp at 8,000rpm. The bike features a tubular steel chassis, cheap suspension and low-spec twin piston brakes. The 16-liter tank allows long rides without worrying about the refuel. The little Ténéré will carry a price tag of €5,400 in Brazil. Read the full article »

Air Asia, the first low cost airline of Asia, will probably be the main sponsor of the Yamaha MotoGP team. The team is currently owned by Fiat, but the Italian manufacturer has yet to announce if they will continue sponsoring the team next year. The first gossip was, that Spanish telecommmunications company Telefonica wants to sponsor the team. This second rumour seems more serious, because Air Asia negotiated with Honda HRC team earlier but they quit when they found out that Casey Stoner’s future RCV wasn’t involved. Read the full article »

Both the Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré and Yamaha FZ8, both previously the preserve of Europe, will be coming to the US next year. The big adventure tourer was launched in Europe last February, and it will be going on sale in the USA in May, 2011. The bike will carry a price tag of $13,900, that’s $1,000 less than the class-leading BMW R1200GS’s price tag. Performance should be relatively similar to that bike too, but the Japanese bike leaves the GS behind in rider aids: the Yamaha is equipped with ride-by wire throttle with two maps, three-mode traction control. Read the full article »

The Nomad Tent Company have just announced the launch of the Ténéré Expedition Tent, an innovative concept inspired by the name of Yamaha’s new adventure bike. The tent is a three-season shelter for two persons and their motorcycle. “I want to stand up to change my clothes, I want a space to work on my bike. No tent out there offered me these advantages, so I built my own,” stated Kevin Muggleton, President and Founder of the Nomad Tent Company. Read the full article »

Yamaha fans eagerly awaiting an all-new Yamaha R6 for 2011 are being told they’ll have to wait another year. The Japanese manufacturer is already working on a replacement for the current series, but the bike won’t be on sale until 2012. Rumours suggest the new machine will borrow heavily from M1 MotoGP bike. The new R6 will feature a new chassis, new engine and bodywork. The current model has been in production since 2006 with only minor changes since, and the bike will remain in sale until 2012. Read the full article »
