Piaggio USA announced the pricing of its three-wheeler lineup for 2011. The only MP3 listed in the brand’s US lineup is the MP3 300 Hybrid, a 278cc three-wheeler which is able tor un in a fully electric mode. The powertrain of the bike offers performance in terms of acceleration and pickup comparable to a conventional petrol-engined 400cc scooter, making it the ideal solution for medium to long range journeys. The bike features a 278cc 4-stroke engine which delivers 25 hp at 7,500 rpm and 27.5 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm.

The synchronous brushless motor adds an extra 2.6 kW and 15 Nm of torque. A full charge of the lithium-ion battery pack allows access to restricted traffic zones in zero emissions pure electric mode, with an autonomy of up to 20 kilometres. Hybrid Charge mode uses part of the energy produced by the petrol engine together with energy recovered during deceleration and braking to recharge the battery. The MP3 Hybrid carries a price tag of $8,499, which is slightly lower than the MP3 400cc ($8,699).
