Speedy Working Motors was an Italian motorcycle manufacturer that went bust in 1984. Now, thanks to Chinese funding, the company is back with six new models. All models are vintage styled bikes powered by Husqvarna single-cylinder engines between 300 and 6600cc and they all have a reasonable price tag. The bikes will be built in Lombardy, Italy and will be sold in Europe, South America and Australia first.

We think that Speedy Working Motors is the best name ever for an Italian motorcycle manufacturer. The brand was founded in 1971 by Piero Sironi and Fausto Vergani and was based in Milan, Italy. They produced trial, enduro and off-road bikes, some of them were powered by Rotax engines. The company went out of business more than thirty years ago but in 2015, the name returns due to Ampelio Macchi, a former engineer whose CV includes stints with Aprilia, Cagiva and Husqvarna.

Macchi has secured founding from China via the entity Shineray and took the wraps off six new models at last year’s EICMA. Two of the six bikes are enduro models. The RS 300 R is an entry-level off-road bike that is powered by a 295cc four-stroke single-cylinder while the RS 500 R features a more powerful 492cc DOHC engine.

One of the new models is a supermotard. At the core of the SM 450 R is a 442cc single-cylinder engine with dry slump lubrication and liquid cooling. The bike features Marzocchi upside-down fork at the front and Sachs shock absorber with preload at the back.

The bike with the largest displacement engine on the lineup is the Superdual 650 that has a 590cc single at his heart. The frame is a classic double-cradle design, and dry weight is an admirable 147 kg.

Our favorite SWM is the Silver Vase 440. This one is an old-fashion Scrambler that is powered by a 435cc air-cooled single. The bike has a double-crade frame and it is very light (150 kg dry). Wheels are 19” at the front and 18” at the back. Tires come from Metzeler.

The 440cc bike will be available in three other versions, too. The Gran Turismo 440 is a classic naked bike an it features a very clean design.

The Gran Milano 440 is more like a Cafe Racer with a solo seat.

The Gran Milano Special is much more beautiful. It looks more modern and it is more modern. This version features disc brakes at the front and at the back and the forks are adjustable. Dry weight is 145 kg (330 pounds).

All SWM bikes have six-speed transmissions, fuel injection and electronic ignition (kick-starter is optional). Production begins in a couple of month. European customers will get the machines first, closely followed by Australia and the South American countries. There’s no word of North America, though. Prices are yet to be announced but according to reports, the bikes will cost around €5,000 and €6,000 ($6,250 to $7,500). This pricing looks very reasonable – the 440cc version might be competitive with Royal Enfield.
