Dainese presented the long-awaited D-air Racing, which has been in development since 2000 and is due to hit the market in late April / May 2011. D-air Racing has been tested over the last year by newly crowned MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo with team mate Valentino Rossi and also by road racing’s lovable rouge Guy Martin.

The world-first system is the only one on the market to operate without any physical connection to a motorcycle. D-air Racing works in synergy with existing armor in racing leathers, shielding the areas of a riders body that need further protection; shoulders, collar bones etc. It also limits excessive movement in the neck and shoulder blades. Once triggered, the system is deployed within 45 milliseconds. Thanks to clever technology, wearers of the Racing system can see if they could show Lorenzo a thing or two on the track by recording telemetry data and downloading it to a computer.

Although there is no fixed price as yet for D-air Racing it is estimated to be around $3,800 and available through selected Dainese D-stores late April / May 2011. The price includes the made-to-measure leather suit, and also all technical features which makes the D-air Racing function.

The Italian giant also gave a sneak peak at the second version of the system at EICMA; the D-air Street. Currently in the final stages of production the Street is due on the market in late 2011. Unlike the Racing version, Street is specifically designed for use on the roads and has a sensor on the bike which is linked to the front wheel and recognises if the bike is involved in a collision or if it starts to slide.
