Vintage gear, rare antique Harleys and Indians with no brakes, invitation-only races, leather helmet for protection - this is board-track racing. This type of motorcycle racing had its golden age in the 1910s and 1920s in the U.S. but board tracks proliferated in part because they were inexpensive to construct. 70 years later, the sport experiences a revival in Europe - where this type of racing actually was born. Read the full article »

Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner secured victory for the first time in his career at the Le Mans circuit in Sunday’s Monster Energy Grand Prix de France. It was a close battle until the very end between two Italians for second place but it was the second Repsol Honda of Andrea Dovizioso who clinched the 20 points, ahead of Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) who achieved his first rostrum riding the Desmosedici. Stoner took his 25th premier class career win after a dominant ride to pull away at the front and win by a margin of over 14 seconds. Read the full article »

Air Asia, the first low cost airline of Asia, will probably be the main sponsor of the Yamaha MotoGP team. The team is currently owned by Fiat, but the Italian manufacturer has yet to announce if they will continue sponsoring the team next year. The first gossip was, that Spanish telecommmunications company Telefonica wants to sponsor the team. This second rumour seems more serious, because Air Asia negotiated with Honda HRC team earlier but they quit when they found out that Casey Stoner’s future RCV wasn’t involved. Read the full article »

Suzuki will return to the Isle of Man TT in 2011 with Northern Ireland-based TAS Racing, the team has announced. TAS, one of the TT’s most successful teams, and Suzuki are continuing a partnership established more than a decade ago. The father and son team of Hector and Philip Neil will spearhead Suzuki’s efforts in the British Superbike Championship and the International Road Races, including the TT. There is no word yet on whether TAS will retain Cameron Donald and Bruce Anstey for next year’s road racing season, but there will be a two rider line-up and an announcement is expected in the next few weeks. Read the full article »

Dakar organizers decided in June that professional riders will be limited to 450cc motorcycles from 2011. The organizers hope this move will make Aprilia, BMW and the Japanese manufacturers more competitive, but KTM might have a thing to say about that. The Austrian company gives us a sneak preview about their new 450cc machine, which is being tested in the company’s private test track in the Pyrenees mountains.
Photo finish is the worst nightmare of sprinters and motorcycle racers for a good reason. AMA Pro Racing had to use this photo finish to decide who won Race 1 of the Daytona Sportbike series at Virginia International Raceway this weekend. The two riders are Bobby Fong (#30) and Martin Cardenas (#36). At the end, Fong won but the margin was only 0,001 seconds.
No matter if you like the electric motorcycles or not - they're here to stay. We saw the amazing speed of the Motoczysz E1pc on this year's Isle of Man TT, and now here's Jenny Tinmouth's zero-emission lap record at Anglesey circuit, during a round of the UK TTXGP Championship. Her fastest lap was 1:20.922 and had an average speed of 69mph. Wonder how long it will take before electric machines lap faster than petrol-powered machines. Read the full article »

Brock's Performance tuned up the bavarians supersport machine, the S1000 RR. The BMW sends 203hp and 80 lb/ft of torque to the rear wheel, although the only change was a new ECU and exhaust system. Besides, the bike got BST carbon wheels, MacIntosh extended swingarm and lowered suspension. After the treatment, the S1000 RR ran the 1/4 mile in 8.49 seconds, while it's top speed was 158.46 mph. No doubt, the german superbike has incredible tuning potencial.
