Renard – a new motorcycle manufacturer has born in Estonia

Estonia is a little country in North East Europe, and it's famous for its...well, nothing. A new company, Renard Motorcycles tries to change that. The estonian engineers designed a composite monocoque chassis that houses the airbox, gas tank and oil reservoir. The engine comes from a Moto Guzzi V2, while the fairing is familiar from the Wraith concept. It looks like the company is actually to produce a handful of these in an attempt to raise investment. The eventual plan calls for production capped at 100 units a year, each retailing for €75,000. Exclusivity won't be a problem. Read the full article »

Moto Morini dies after acquisition deal falls through as Garelli/Berlusconi walk away

Paolo Berlusconi's company, New Garelli were unable to reach an agreement with the trade unions, which means death to the historic italian marque. In their statement, New Garelli cites the company’s inability to reach a mutual agreement with the labor unions as it’s main reason for backing out of the deal. With no other buyers in the mix, and the trade unions seemingly an immovable object, Moto Morini seems destined for the dead pool. Study: motorcycle riders report safety habits, crashes

Consumer Reports conducted a new study about motorcycle riders safety habits, and the result is pretty shocking. The organisation polled 1383 of its bike-riding subscribers, but no particular make or model bike is represented, just general riders. 7 in 10 respondents consider themselves to be experienced riders and have held their motorcycle license for at least five years. But 10 percent said they had been in an accident in the last five years and 1 in 4 said they don't always wear a helmet when they ride. Read the full article »

Motorcycle accident? Here’s where you’re most likely to get injured

A european study has been produced from data taken from five countries, Italy, Holland, Germany, France and Spain. The writers of the document analysed 921 accidents over 3 years, resulting approximately 2000 variables being coded for each accident. The investigation included a full reconstruction of the accident; vehicles were inspected; witnesses to the accident were interviewed; and, subject to the applicable privacy laws, with the full cooperation and consent of both the injured person and the local authorities, pertinent medical records for the injured riders and passengers were collected. From these data, all the human, environmental and vehicle factors, which contributed to the outcome of the accident were identified. The result is this infographic. Read the full article »

Yellow Day Motorbike Ride Out to raise funds for Martha Care

Martha Care has been set up to support parents and families of children who have been admitted to the Barbara Russell unit at Frenchay hospital in Bristol. Frenchay hospital provides treatment to seriously ill or injured children from all over the South West, from Cornwall to Gloucestershire and all the counties in between. Martha Care intends to support all those families with children admitted to the ward who will be in hospital for longer than 2 weeks and who have to return to the hospital after they have been allowed to go home for whatever reason. Read the full article »
