The European division of Honda has announced the upgraded SH300i for the new model year. The pinnacle of Honda’s SH range receives a host of improvements to enhance its engine response, carrying capacity, convenience and economy – all wrapped up in new, sharper bodywork. The updated engine is now more economical and Euro-4 compliant, the first on Honda’s scooter line-up. The new SH300i will be available in six colours.

The new SH300i builds on the proven formula and features a brand new steel underbone frame with a slightly longer 1438mm wheelbase that offers increased under seat storage capable of holding a full-face helmet, whilst still providing the SH’s trademark agile handling. Subtle geometry changes create a slightly more upright, neutral riding position and the optimal combination of all-round visibility and easy ground reach from a seat height of 805mm.

Having built its reputation on punchy all-round performance and crisp throttle response, the SH300i’s 279cc liquid-cooled 4-valve single-cylinder engine – fuelled by PGM-FI – is now equipped with increased torque for instant acceleration in the low-to-mid range. It’s a strong, willing and well-balanced powerplant, perfect for dealing with aggressive city traffic while making longer journeys out of town a pleasure. For 2015, fuel economy has also been significantly improved through the use of low friction technologies and bearings. The low-emission engine is Honda’s first Euro 4-compliant unit.

The SH300i’s new lines exude strength and purpose. Fittingly for the machine that crowns Honda’s premium SH range, new front and rear LED lights inject more stylish desirability. The addition of a Smart Key also elevates convenience and security. The compact fob works in conjunction with a mode dial positioned in the right hand side inner front cowl to enable operation of ignition and seat release, whenever the rider is within two metres of the machine.

Up front, 35mm telescopic forks give supple ride quality and accurate control, matched by the preload-adjustable twin rear shock absorbers and cast aluminium swingarm. At 169kg (wet weight), 1kg has been shaved compared to the previous model, contributing to the SH300i’s light feel and nimble handling. Two-channel ABS is now standard fitment to the front and rear disc brakes.

A range of Genuine Honda accessories are ready for the SH300i owner to create their perfect long-range commuting partner, including colour matched 35L top box, heated grips, windshield and knuckle deflectors.

“The first SH300i brought exciting performance to our SH line up – with very strong acceleration and performance matched to agile handling. So the development team were delighted to hear it described by one journalist as “the perfect weapon for Rome”. This latest model is even sharper, with improved convenience, agility and styling. And even better acceleration!” said Michio Atsuchi, project leader of the SH300i.
