Ducati has begun production of its new Scrambler at the Bologna factory in Italy. In just six months time since the project was presented to Ducati employees, the bike has entered production. The new model is very important for Ducati since it is the first scrambler after the company stopped manufacturing scramblers 40 years ago. The first bikes off the line was greeted by Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati, together with Silvano Fini, Manager of the Borgo Panigale plant. 2015 Ducati Scrambler Icon

The bike, which will be available in four versions, Icon, Urban Enduro, Full Throttle and Classic, is powered by a 803cc air-cooled V-twin motor delivering 74hp. Ducati says the Scrambler does not has a retro design but it’s a contemporary, post-heritage reinterpretation of the 1970s motorcycle’s design and each model has its own dedicated logo that differentiates from each other. Whatever you call the design, it’s a flat-track inspired all rounder with a high handlebar, a bench seat and a bucket headlight. It sure looks like a fun and flexible bike.

The Scrambler features a six-speed gearbox and a chain drive to get power to the ground, and anti-lock brakes are standard fit. The Italian engineers kept the weight at a minimum: dry weight is 375 pounds (170 kg) but at 410 pounds (186 kg), the bike is ready to play. “This first bike is particularly meaningful to us”, commented Claudio Domenicali. “With its ‘Land of Joy’ theme, the Ducati Scrambler brand will be bringing a breath of fresh air and fun to dealerships and will provide a great product that combines modernity with heritage in a way never before seen in the motorcycle industry, a fact that fills us with enormous satisfaction and pride”.
